The Day My worst Nightmare, Became Reality...

It was a normal weekday afternoon.

While driving home from work, I got a text from my wife with 2 shocking words....

"HOME 911"

I thought one of the kids was hurt and she wanted me home quickly to help.

As I sped up a little I called her. She didn't answer. I called again. Nothing.

When I got close to my neighborhood, I saw what felt like every police car in the city with their lights flashing all headed the same direction.

Then I turned onto my street and saw something that made my heart stop.

The Police where all in MY driveway.

They had a man in cuffs as they were putting him into a squad car.

When I pulled up, an officer quickly walked over before I could even turn off my car.

"Are you the husband?", she asked.

I said, "Yes".

"Go inside. Your wife is in there."

That was it. No explanation. No reassurance. No mention of my kids.

Just those six words standing between me and my worst nightmare.

I ran to the front door but paused, praying and bracing myself for what I would find inside.

What I discovered changed everything I thought I knew about being prepared.

My wife had done exactly what we'd trained. When the man in custody tried to break into our home and harm my family, she didn't freeze. She didn't panic. She executed our defense protocols.

She secured our sons in a safe room. Positioned herself strategically. Repelled the threat from our property. Sent that text to me.

And she did all of it while also on the phone with 911.
